Each year from October until January, Orcas visit the fjord system between the Lofoten Islands, Vesterålen Islands and mainland Norway. They follow the herring which enter the fjordsystem to overwinter. Herring are the main food source of the norwegian orcas and hunted by the orcas working together as a family group. This can be seen in the video on the video page. There have been 43 family groups identified in Norway and a group can range from only 8 animals up to over 50 animals.
